A few media outlets this week were reporting on potential new Costco locations in Australia.
News Ltd.’s outlets The Courier-Mail and The Australian both syndicated the same story that Costco Australia is flagging Beenleigh as a potential location for a second Costco in South East Queensland. This is obviously to not only to target those in the City of Logan area, but also get shoppers down from South Brisbane and up from the Gold Coast.
The other story this week on a new Costco is for the Greater Sydney area at Marsden Park. The Blacktown Sun, a local Fairfax paper, has indicated that the new outlet is likely to be on Richmond Road, at the corner of Hollingsworth Road, in Marsen Park. I’m not an expert in geography, but I believe that would make it the third Costco for the greater Sydney area.
The Blacktown Sun also noted that the Casula Costco in Liverpool (also Greater Sydney) is targeted for completion by November this year. If that is true it means that Coscto has managed a 12 month build and start-up cycle from being granted planning permission. Hopefully the new North Lakes Costco Warehouse can keep to this time frame so Brisbane shoppers can access that store by early in the second quarter in 2014 since approval was given by the Queensland government at the end of April. We know that Ringwood has taken longer but that may be due to the deep, double story car park under the store.
The other rumours out there are the first Costco for Adelaide which is still yet to be confirmed by Coscto Australia from what we know, plus rumours for two new Costco Warehouses in Greater Melbourne. The first of those touted to be somewhere in the City of Casey and the other one for to go alongside the new Ikea at the old Pipeworks Market site in Campbellfield.
